Project Overview:

Kenshu, created by OK Boring, is a performance review platform tailored for engineering teams, focuses on providing an efficient and user-friendly solution for career progression and review cycles. Taking a no-frills, practical approach, Kenshu helps engineering leaders track employee growth, gather feedback, and align team members with career development goals—without the complexity often found in traditional HR software. Initially targeting engineering teams, Kenshu simplifies performance reviews and provides clear, actionable insights into employee development.

The Challenge:

Many HR platforms are complex and overloaded with features, making it difficult for small to medium-sized engineering teams to effectively manage performance reviews, track career progression, and gather meaningful feedback. The challenge was to create a simple, intuitive platform that would allow engineering leaders to manage performance reviews, establish clear career tracks, and gather essential feedback on progress toward career development goals—without overwhelming the user. Kenshu needed to strike a balance between functionality and simplicity, ensuring the platform met the needs of engineering teams without unnecessary complexity or frills.

My Role:

As a UX/UI designer, I was responsible for crafting the platform’s user experience, ensuring it met the practical needs of engineering teams. I collaborated closely with the product owner to create a streamlined brand design system that enabled efficient development of all components and elements. My primary focus was on delivering value through simplicity—ensuring each feature adhered to brand guidelines and aligned with the OK BORING ethos: doing the basics well without unnecessary complexity. I designed the onboarding flow, dashboard, creation, edit, and view-only screens to facilitate smooth user journeys for developers. By establishing a simple color palette, component guidelines, and a clear style guide, I ensured the pages could be easily built out and maintained.
